Elizabeth and I decided to take a day trip yesterday, it had been awhile since we have had a chance to get out and enjoy ourselves. We went to see the Port of Acajutla. This port is about 45 minutes from our home.
The Port of Acajutla is El Salvador’s main port. On the country’s northwestern Pacific coast, the deep-water Port of Acajutla handles huge volumes of El Salvador’s exports of coffee, sugar, and balsam.
The Port of Acajutla is home to El Salvador’s biggest oil refinery that refines petroleum from Venezuela, a fertilizer plant, and several seafood- and shell-processing plants. Tourists are coming to the Port of Acajutla in increasing numbers to enjoy its beautiful beaches. In 2005, over 26 thousand people called the Port of Acajutla home.
We were not able to get up close to where they load and unload the containers from the ships because of the safety and security restrictions, but we could see from a distance and it was very interesting. We also went down to where the fishermen bring in their daily catch of fish, shrimp and other seafood. The seafood is processed and sold to local restaurants and people daily so it is always fresh.
Elizabeth and I had to sample some of the seafood while here, so we had a late lunch at Restaurante Acajutla. Elizabeth had the breaded shrimp, salad and steamed vegetables and I had the breaded shrimp, French fries and salad. The food was excellent, we enjoyed it very much. The shrimp were large; when I first saw them I thought they had brought me fried chicken. I thought the cost was reasonable our meal with drinks and appetizers was only, $41.00 including the normal tip. We would highly recommend this restaurant to visitors.
We have attached some pictures of the visit that we hope you will enjoy and as always please let us hear from you with comments and/or questions.
